Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)

Worcester Polytechnic InstituteFounded in 1865 and located in Massachusetts, Worcester Polytechnic Institute was one of the nation's first engineering and technology universities. WPI's 18 academic departments offer more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science, engineering, technology, business, the social sciences, and the humanities and arts, leading to Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees. WPI is ranked No. 1 for student/faculty interaction in the National Survey of Student Engagement. Also it is 7th in the nation among engineering schools for highest starting median salary according to a 2010 report by PayScale, Inc.

WPI's world-class faculty work closely with their students, are involved in cutting edge research, and hold a number of awards including over a dozen Fulbright Scholars. As important is the practical education the WPI faculty imparts to their students. It is not enough to know things. WPI graduates need to be able to use their knowledge to solve difficult and important problems. This is the WPI tradition of balancing theory with practice.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering post-graduate instruction. WPI holds additional accreditations in the areas of engineering, technology, the sciences, and business.
