As estimated by the Center for Energy Workforce Development, the utilities industry is looking at the prospect of 55% of jobs being replaced in the next decade. With continued developments in technology resulting in advanced workflow processes across the industry, many employers have embraced the need for a highly-educated workforce. For cooperative employees, access to industry-recognized, technical college education can be difficult given that they reside in rural areas, where colleges and universities are more spread out than in larger cities. EPCE’s online education and training make further education possible for these employees, and high praise has been given by cooperative employees pursuing EPCE-sponsored certificates and degrees.

CEWD Spotlights EPCE-sponsored Cybersecurity Programs through Excelsior Colle

The Energy Providers Coalition for Education (EPCE), a national alliance of energy providers and education institutions, has partnered with Excelsior College to help meet the utility employment demand for cyber professionals by providing a wide range of online cybersecurity programs, including a free massive open online course (MOOC) that teaches the basic concepts of cybersecurity and security. "Now more than ever, cybersecurity is on everyone's mind. Energy companies need cybersecurity professionals, and because the programs are online, they are available to individuals throughout the nation," said Christine Carpenter, Director, EPCE. "This program has an outreach capacity to all utility workers in the United States, which is one reason we partnered with Excelsior College."

EPCE education partner WPI partners with NASA to stimulate interest in science and technology

WPI will again transform its campus into a family-friendly festival of hands-on technology and exhibits in celebration of the NASA Sample Return Robot Challenge. NASA has asked WPI not only to host this competition, but to create a destination for the younger populations to engage the possibilities of science and learning. TouchTomorrow at WPI, featuring the NASA Sample Return Robot Centennial Challenge, is an unprecedented educational and interactive event for New England, attracting 7,000 people in 2012, more in 2013, and anticipates even bigger crowds on June 14, 2014.


EPCE presents at the CEWD Regional Meetings

EPCE was invited to present at the CEWD regional Mid-Atlantic/Northeast and South/Southeast meetings on understanding the energy industry education supply. The presentations highlighted examples of EPCE programs designed for building a highly skilled evolving workforce for the evolving energy industry. Examples of employer-driven workforce development strategies and programs were shared that blend learning models (hands-on, online and face-to-face instruction) to help utilities grow your and train current and future employees.

According to the 2014 College Return on Investment (ROI) report by PayScale, Inc., Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) ranks in the top 1.5 percent of all colleges nationally for return on investment (ROI).
